Episode 6: What is a REAL relationship with Jesus?

Despite claiming to be Christian all my life, I didn’t actually bring Jesus into my life. I mean, I knew the difference between right and wrong. I didn’t steal, kill or break the law. I wasn’t perfect, but I was a good person and that was good enough for me.

One October morning I sat in the pew listening to the preacher talk about sin and the consequences of it being eternal suffering in Hell. I remember thinking, “my soon-to-be ex-husband needs to hear this.”

And then it happened. God pulled back the veil and I heard Him say, “This message isn’t for him, it’s for you.”

Episode Scriptures

What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’
Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

 Luke 15:4-7 English Standard Version

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

Ezekiel 36:26-27 English Standard Version

Big Picture Take Away

It isn’t enough to just know who Jesus is. A real relationship with Jesus should transform you.

It means that you are justified: every sin you have ever committed or will ever commit is forgiven. Remember, it is just-as-if-i’d never sinned.

You will spend the rest of your time on earth being sanctified, which means God will continually draw out your sin through trials to make you more like Jesus.

And someday, when you enter into eternity, you will be glorified. You will never again feel pain or sorrow or the desire to sin. You will actually be made perfect like Jesus and you will worship Him in heaven forever and ever.

Practical Application

So you have a real relationship with Jesus – but how do you lived a transformed life for God’s glory?

  1. Pray.
Start each day by asking God to give you the opportunity to show Christ with someone in the middle of your everyday life. This could be through patience with your kids, encouragement for your husband, serving in ministry, showing compassion to co-workers, smiling at the cashier, and thanking her for helping you checkout.
  2. Get in your Bible.
Can you be a Godly woman if you don’t know what God says about womanhood?! Not really, certainly not really well. God gave us the Bible so we could learn about who He has called us to be.
  3. Share the Gospel.
Does this scary? I get it! (You can read my embarrassing encounter in 3 Reasons I don’t people about Jesus) You don’t have to have the perfect presentation all prepared! Just share your story – how God has and is working in your life.

Need More Help?

If you realized that you don’t have a real relationship with Jesus, you can start one right now!

All it takes is for your to recognize your sin that is keeping you apart from God, confessing it to Him in prayer and asking that He cover with the blood of His son, Jesus.
